The Economic Impact of Women-Owned Businesses in the United States: Why Don't More Women Stick Together?

Women In Business
More and more women are becoming the respective leaders in business. A quintessential powerhouse of sorts. Women are employing more people than the major corporations put together. Yet, women are still behind when it comes to legislative public policy and pay rates alike.

The article below, lead by the National Women's Business Council displays the economic impact of women owned businesses in the Unites States. Reading it led me to thinking about a past conversation my husband and I had. The women have the money, and the know how but, somehow lack the power structure for real change.

I'm With You Through Thin and Thin???
If you look at the gender and economic gap over the decades. You will see that it is and has always been men that get the positions of leadership. Why is this?

My philosophy is that not enough women "stick" together.

What I mean by this is, across the board be it race or gender you find that people will usually support their own kind. If a man is running for office against a woman. Men will always vote for the man even if he is not as qualified or unproven. They do this because men stick together, especially against a woman (are you kidding me). It's the survival of the fittest at all cost right.

Losing The Race We even find this in racially motivated situations. If an African American man runs for office against a White woman with equal qualifications and a positive targeted agenda. The African American men and women are going to come out in droves to support that man.  However, when women have a chance to vote for another woman, no matter the race. The vote will most definitely be divided. It's like this if it's a White male against a White female as well.

"You educate a man; you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation." -Brigham Young

We Don't Even Believe It Ourselves
I love that quote but, women can't seem to stick together long enough to think about the enormous gain they and all would benefit from a woman in a position of power. Tell me if I'm wrong. I mean, what does this tell everyone. That not even we believe that we are capable of leading. If we don't believe, then who will. Now, of course we don't want some radical woman with a distorted and tainted agenda to lead, so forget about that for a moment.

A Brave New World
Just think about the bigger picture and what that would mean for the world over. Could you imagine if we put our stereotypes, self inflicted at times and gender classifications aside and stuck together just as the men do? I think that more women are "against" their own female species. Oh what we could do. If women said to themselves I will vote for this woman just because men would do it. The whole world would change. We would start to see more women in positions of leadership by being appointed and by popular vote over time. The greatest evolution of politics that would be.

I have three daughters and I want them to not just think they can be anything in this world but, know it to be true.

What do you think? Please share and talk with others about what you think, let's get people thinking about this.
