Republican lawmaker state Rep. Cathrynn Brown wants to introduce a bill, House Bill 206 that would make it a third degree felony to terminate a pregnancy that is the result of rape and the individual would be charged with "tampering with evidence"

Tampering with evidence shall include destroying, changing, hiding, placing or fabricating any physical evidence with intent to prevent the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of any person or to throw
suspicion of the commission of a crime upon another. This would include procuring or facilitating an abortion compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime," the bill says. So the doctor could be charged as well.

Do you think this Bill would deter would be rapists? This is what Cathrynn Brown claims the House Bill 206 is for. That may work if their DNA is already in the system. I don't think she has thought about the long term affect this would have on the mother and the child.

This bill will most likely not pass because it needs votes and Democrats have a majority in both chambers of New Mexico's legislature.
